Edward Norton or Jim Carrey?

Many actors auditioned for the part of Andy Kaufman.

In the end, Milos Forman (the director) couldn't make a choice between Jim Carrey and Edward Norton, because they both were perfect as Andy.

The crew had to vote and Jim Carrey won.

Who would you choose? And why?

I dont think anyone but Jim Carrey would have done a believeable Jim Carrey.

Cannot really see Edward Norton in this role and cannot even see why its up for debate Jim Carrey was Andy in this film!

Which will it be? Lets get decadent.

Facially, I think Andy Kaufman looked more like Bill Murray (who probably knew Kaufman since they were on both on SNL at the same time) than Norton or Carrey. But perhaps Murray was a bit old to play him by then (in 2000 Murray was 50 and Kaufman died at 35).

He was recently in The Invention of Lying playing a crooked cop. I thought he did well, but he really didn't seem like himself. It took me a minute to figure out who he was because of the costume and the voice he put on, but when I figured it out, I was like .

I would really have to see Ed Norton's audition to make any kind of opinionated answer on this. But I thought Jim Carrey did a great job.

Edward Norton would have been great in the role as well, Norton can do just about anything, but I thought Carrey was wonderful.

is that a joke?

Ed Norton looks more like Andy Kaufman, and he's a brilliant actor, but Jim Carrey was, IMO, the man for the job. If for no other reason, Carrey so obviously is inspired by Andy's schtick.

Looking back at footage of andy kaufman i actually thought that edward norton resembled him. However, jim carrey's type of acting was more suited to the role

Carrey by a mile.

Its that man again!!

not only did jim carrey do an INCREDIBLE job, he also is known to be a giant fan of andy kaufman. therefore, i think he was really motivated to immerse himself completely in the role of his idol.

Andy Kaufman told me he wanted to act the part of Jim Carrey in his biopic.

Ed Norton is an excellent actor, but Jim Carrey had stand up comedy experience. Did Carrey know Andy Kaufman?
