Just got done reading...
The Bob Zmuda book after watching Man on the Moon again on Christmas Eve. I liked Andy Kaufmann on Taxi when I was younger but I have to admit, I was never one that "got him" or liked him except as Latka. I am fascinated though, after reading the book, how he was so able to keep people off kilter all the time. Nobody knew what was real or not. Just the fact that everyone question if he was really dying is a testament to his off-center humor. After awhile, wouldn't people really start to get it and think everything he was involved in was a prank? Then that would have killed his career. It seems like from the book, by the time he passed away, people were starting to tire of him. I wonder what he would have done to reinvent himself if he had lived.
I also wonder what he would think of the REM song, the movie and the fact that Taxi was just named one of the 60 best sitcoms of all time by TV Guide. Would he have been flattered or been like, come on, this is all so mainstream and considered it a sell out?
