Which did you see first?

I saw Vanilla Sky twice first before I finally got round to buying this. 1st time I thought it was an alright movie, 2nd time I absolutely loved it!

Now to the bigger question though, which do you prefer???

Personally it was Vanilla Sky for me, I think Tom Cruise was a noticably better actor, better budget, alot better soundtrack and just the ending scene. However I still think Abre Los Ojos was a great movie, I prefered the mime scene in it alot more to the dance scene in Vanilla Sky, and I prefered the character who represents the company (guy at the end on the building).

It'd be interesting to see if people prefer the movie they saw first, let me know your thoughts

The revision of the script for Vanilla Sky, most notably the ending, took out a lot of the most dramatic, philosophical, mind bending aspects. I tend to look really deep into things. If you're wondering what I mean, read my other post: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125659/board/thread/121634009 .

Vanilla Sky seemed great: shot for shot, line for line. Then they blew it at the end. =/

P.S. I saw Abre los ojos first.

I saw Abre Los Ojos first. I abhorred Vanilla Sky, and by the end of it hated Tom Cruise.

Despite the fact that Mr Noriega's character was tremendously wealthy, he wasn't too hard to relate to for me. Cruise on the other hand, was a near celeb magazine owner, had celebrity friends at his birthday party (which is revealed to us, the audience, about as deftly as Mr T reading Shakespeare), and seems to have moments written into the script solely to show off his abs.

When the point in the story where the audience is supposed to care about his character arrives it's too late. I found that I could probably empathize with a mannequin more than I could Tom Cruise's character.

Noriega at least had human elements to him, and I completely disagree about his performance. He came off as a flawed person who was mostly selfish, yet capable of caring. Cruise was just a dick. It was all I could do to not walk out of the theater during Vanilla Sky. My girlfriend at the time sure wanted to do so.

Oh yeah, the soundtrack in Vanilla Sky sucked too.
