Anna's thirst for culture

The first question one should ask is why is this millionaire gal "trodding" around the bohemian parts of London.

we find that she is totally bored with american "values" and is seeking an infusion of culture.

we see that although Hugh suggests an up-market book on Turkey she wants to start at low end with a coffee-table book with pretty pictures, ie to ease her OUT of american LACK of culture and IN to European culture.

without that plot element we don't have a movie.

in the end she GETS her wish, escapes america, and lives IN England with a bloke who knows all about culture SO with her dollars they can EXPLORE such culture at their hearts' desire, as we see in final scene.

She may just want to look at nice pictures of Turkey. Telling her the book was no good was pretty stupid. For one thing, if he thinks it's no good, why is he stocking it? And for another, if someone is looking for a pictorial book, offering them something that looks as if it has few pictures if any, usn't very bright.

It's a comedy. It's not meant to be taken seriously.

I'm under the impression that quite a few famous people like to experience 'real life' occasionally by wandering amongst the hoi polloi. There's more oxygen at sea level than at altitude!

A signature always reveals a man's character - and sometimes even his name.

An ignorant point of view. There is plenty of culture in the United States. More than any person could assimilate in a lifetime. If you don't think so, your education is pitifully lacking.

Thirst for culture?

People who can travel anywhere, and who like to travel, are interested in places where they can travel. Being interested in travel books isn't about a thirst for culture, she may be looking for places to spend her days off of shooting.
