He was one of the brighter spots along with the rest of Will's friends who were so much more endearing than Anna.

where does spike get his cool t-shirts?

Key to winning baseball games? Pitching, fundamentals, and three run homers.-Earl Weaver

Rhys Ivan's = Arbennig, Ardderchog, Bendigedig. Etc etc. Shame we don't see. Him in more films .

and the name of Spike [Milligan] was so appropriate for his role

he could have been Eccles

He's good; but so are all the support cast. The film wouldn't work as well as it does without Julia, Hugh and the strong support cast who inhabit and bring to life a variety of interesting characters.

who inhabit and bring to life a variety of interesting characters

and that is amplified by several really obnoxious americans like her american boyfriend, to show exactly WHY she wants OUT of American Beauty to a meaningful life.

Interesting that in Pelican Brief she also opts to leave america

He and Dylan Moran are the best things in it.

In fact, I only watched it (just finished a couple of minutes ago) because I wanted to see Ifans. I don't exactly regret watching it - he was great - but I really thought it was annoyingly, depressingly stupid.

I won't comment on most of his films because I have not seen him in much but he was a much needed breath of fresh air in this one.
Is the real Notting Hill as laid back as it is portrayed here?
Back to Rhys' character Spike's first scene which sets the mood for his character for the rest of the movie.

I'm just going to go into the kitchen
to get some food -- and then I'm going
to tell you a story that will make your
balls shrink to the size of raisins.

LOL. Good times!

I feel he was the worst thing in the film. He wasn't funny in the slightest and added nothing. I would have been fine with Hugh Grant's non-Julia Roberts scenes being solely with Hugh Bonneville and co.

reply

Wasn't his first scene where he has Hugh Grant help him pick out a shirt to wear on his date?
It was pretty funny.

reply

i think he was very funny, but the rest of the cast were good too. it would have been less fun without him though.

reply

i actually found him to be the most obnoxious.

I didn't know that after Julia's character and Hugh's got married Spike changed career and became a CIA instructor in Snowden!!! What a big change.

reply

The character he played was repulsive and stupid. Other than that, perfectly charming.

reply

Both he and the sister were a little over the top but still amusing. I think the sister was a little worse if she was serious when she met Anna. I couldn't tell if she was trying to be humorous or not.
