How furious would Adam's mom be...

When she eventually finds out there was no nuclear war and she lived for 35 years and 3 months underground in error.

She hated it down there...it must have been torture for her.

On a side not, the dad actually seemed to like it down there. Do you think he eventually came around to accept the truth or that he believes it was some communist propaganda that there was no war? Will he regret the lives they wasted down there (other than family unit love and bonding) or did he kind of enjoy it in a way?

In fairness, he was right that the old guard didn't just fade away. Russia has been governed by a KGB man for the past 20 years.

It's a lighthearted comedy & I was willing to go along with it. But I do wonder why they stayed in the shelter for so long. Wouldn't most of the radiation exposure occur during the initial blast & then immediately drop to negligible levels? And didn't people already know this after Hiroshima/Nagasaki?

If they hadn't locked themselves in the shelter, they'd be dead (from the plane crash). So the real question is, "Was living 35.25 years underground worth getting to live your remaining years back on top?"

They probably meant a hydrogen fusion bomb.

Bombs got stronger over time. The TJ yield of the bombs dropped on Japan were just 54 to 92. By 1952, the Ivy King was up to 2,100.

I guess there were some positives that came out of it though. Like their stocks being worth a fortune, chances are Calvin may have sold them earlier on. She did develop alcoholism though so that would have sucked!

I think I would have liked it down there too for the most part. No work, no dealing with people, safe from crime. The downside would be if you got seriously ill you would be on your own.
