Troy was hysterical!

Just saw this movie again and Troy was funny the whole time but his looks during the club and dance scene were priceless.

And one of many famous lines

Troy: What's it to you?

Eve: I'm his pimp!

And the whole gentleman defination discussion.

Great movie!

reply

Troy: Why not go to Gnome to get supplies and a wife?

Eve: (scoffs) Yeah!, that's where you would go to find a wife. Gnome?
(turns to Adam) He's gay by the way.

Adam: Good or you!

Troy: Thanks, we try.

LOL, the look on Troy's face when he delivered that last line gets me every time, LOL.

reply

Uh dude, it's NOME, not GNOME. Though we understand the 'verbal' pun made by Eve.

The above comment about gays simply shows the total ignorance of those who dispise, hate or lament the existence of gay men.

Troy was the secret ingredient that made this movie so much better, without him, it would have been less entertaining.

I was thinking that when I watched this last night. When Foley's character showed up it was the perfect time for another character to be introduced, and I was at first a little nervous that they'd introduce him and then forget him, like so many movies do with comic secondary characters.

The part of the movie that takes place above ground would have been too cynical without him. Although I really liked what was done by Fraser, Walken & Spacek, I wouldn't have enjoyed Blast from the Past as much as I did without Foley.

I thought Fraser, Walken, Spacek, and Foley were perfectly cast characters. Without that, this film probably doesn't fly.

and He said NOME...as in NOME, Alaska...not GNOME.

Well Troy was a good character to be 'gay'. He was a foil for Eve at times and an outside observer who could comment on the growing relationship between Eve and Adam. If Eve's roommate friend was a WOMAN they would be rivals, then there would be the friction of the audience expecting HER to compete with Eve for the attention of the Man (Adam). If it were a hetero male friend, again, there would be the sexual tension of having a potential rival for Eve's affections. So the Gay Male was a good decision. Since the film couldn't go into the complexities of the relationships (being a light comedy and all) making Troy gay eliminated several script problems that would have to be addressed or else we would be writing ad nauseum about it on the IMDB forms right here! ;) LOL

Dr. Kila Marr was right. Kill the Crystalline Entity.

reply

okay StoneGriffin, I see one hole in your theory about Troy being a gay character. There could also be tension if Troy were attracted to Adam. Just a thought and a potentially funny scene with Troy and Adam.

reply

My favorite was " Yes....yes, you did!", with that Dave Foley smile! Priceless!

reply

Not a hole, and unfortunately, not as clever as you hoped it would be. Everyone who saw the film was aware of that possibility, but immediately dismissed it. Troy was a fashionista, a hip and trendy guy. He immediately looked upon Adam as a younger brother figure (when he warmed up to him) There was NO tension in that 'gay' aspect at all, which was correct since it would NOT have helped the story, it would have diverted the story to it's primary story arc - the love between Adam and Eve.

Dr. Kila Marr was right. Kill the Crystalline Entity.

reply

why must you insult me? I was only giving my opinion on the matter like everyone else. I wasn't trying to be clever. I was only pointing out that it could have been a short lived possibility that resulted in a funny scene. That's all.

The cast was perfect. But without Foley, it wouldn't be the same. He kept Adam and Eve in orbit, and translated for us. Plus, he had those perfectly understated lines! (skate around your block, didn't get that memo from my parents.
I sigh on every scene Alicia is in, and think this is her best role, ever. Even better than Clueless. (she is less cute here, but sexy, more adult, more conflicted).
But Dave is probably the best character in the movie. I want another movie, just about him!

reply

It is people like you who get the crap beat out of them by not realizing that a gay man IS still a man.Ignorance is not becoming.

Life is not about going to your grave regretting your life!!

reply

My favorite line by him, was whe he said, "Well, Eve. Can he skate around your block?
That had me rolling.

"Did he just say funky butt loving?"

reply

"just a couple laps?"

Troy was friggin' awesome.

>HO-FO-DO-MO...OH MY GOD NO!<

reply

Yep, Troy was a nice character, sweetly portrayed - this is the sort of movie you could take your mother to- if that's a reccomendation for any movie ?!

reply

All Hail, Dave Foley.

I wish they would design a good sitcom around him.

I agree. His character added so much to this film and I thought he was hilarious. Perfect character. I just saw this film again and I loved the seen where she is protesting and protesting how she isn't in love with Adam, and she's I don't fall in love with people who this and that and he just is so calm with a little smirk and just keeps replying "Yes you do"........"Yes you do".
Classic!!!

reply

THe well we try was great, but I just saw the scene where Adam drives the truck away and Nina Aaron is getting all pissed off and Troy just says "well lets all keep calm, that's the important thing." Great delivery by Foley!

Do you look at a menu and say OK?

reply

You could tell the expression on his face, he almost couldn't hold back the laughter in mocking that Doctor. Lolol

reply

For some reason his line, "Excuse me, I HAVE to go to the bathroom" (paraphrased) has always stuck with me. The duality and delivery of that line was classic.

I just saw this today and I'm still laughing over the bathroom line.
