Baseball cards

Are they really worth anything these days? I don't see any baseball card shops like I used to.

The collectibles market has fallen off but the Mickey Mantle rookie card Adam had is still worth quite a bit.

There is a Mantle rookie card mentioned in the movie. But that's not even the most valuable card in the collection. There are two cards you catch a brief glimpse of when Calvin first shows the cards to Adam during his childhood.

1) A T-206 Honus Wagner tobacco card. The most valuable card ever printed. It has sold for upwards of $2,000,0000.

2) A 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle (not the Mantle RC mentioned). If the card was a near gem mint PSA 9 or a gem mint PSA 10 it could sell for between $300,000-$500,000.

But you have to wonder how good the quality of the cards would actually be held together with rubber bands, finger print marks, corners being softened moving around in the box, etc.. Still though, that box of cards alone is worth millions of dollars on paper. Then again, you have to find buyers actually willing to spend money on them and these days the demand for old baseball cards isn't that high.

Do Americans really pay good money for "Baseball cards", whatever that is? In the real world stamps are collectables, but not pieces of cardboard with sporting images.

Why would stamps be collectibles, and baseball cards not be?

The ones he would have had would still be worth a lot today, maybe not as much but still quite a bit. The reason the market fell through was because there was too many companies printing cards and those companies were printing up too many on their own as well.
