pilot eject

I know it's just a nitpick, but being a pilot (not military) myself this scene really bugs me. It's the most irresponsible thing to eject over a highly populated area.

reply

I agree. It's understandable that the story needed an explosion over the house, and to have a plane with a malfunction is a good idea. But the part where the pilot is told to head to the ocean to eject and then it looks that the plane is 90 degrees up to the sky and stalls is just silly. Why go up to the sky?

Why not just have the pilot trying to get to the ocean and say: "I can't make it! It's too far!" and eject. Just a simple and conventional situation.

reply

It's been awhile since I've seen this, but I thought the pilot had the plane headed toward the ocean, and then after he ejected, something went wrong and it veered back toward land.

But I really don't remember.

I agree with Carlos PC above in that the pilot should have offered some reason he couldn't make it. During the scene he ejects you can see the sea in the background (not a long way away) and there doesn't appear to be any reason the jet cannot make the distance.🐭

"You can see the sea." See? "C" for CATWOMAN!

Well my field is medicine tho I do have my pilots lic as well so does my hubby we own a Velocity TXL. Anyway I come from a military and medical family from Germany but now have dual citizenship in the US, and we do have a US side of our families as well. My fathers side are the military and LE side. 2 of my younger brothers are military pilots, one here in the US and the other back home in Germany, so one flies a F-15E in the USAF and the other is in Luftwaffe and flies the Eurofighter Typhoon. My dad was also a Luftwaffe pilot who flew Tornado's my hubby's family is similar to mine so lots of flying etc. Anyway my point is I know a lot about airplanes or flying I have over 500 hours in the TXL and about 1500 total in single engine light aircraft with vfr and Ifr ratings.

So my take and to be clear I am NOT a expert nor to I claim to be and NO mall ninja as you yanks call em either. But from what I saw, my experience and what Ive been told by all my family and friends whom some are also pilots here in the US some in the military, the pilot thought his plane would fly or glide out to sea as he was close enough but the stick moved which is not all that realistic as most times after ejection the controls would freeze aka be locked and the plane was flying at speed, so even if the stick did veer as it did would have rolled or circled to the ground not just nose dive imo the fire would have blown up the plane in midair 1st hence why the guy ejected.

But this reminds me of the horrible accident and mistake by that fairly new Marine pilot who crashed his FA-18 into a home in San Diego not too long ago and killed a Korean family or everyone but the father he lost his wife and kids I think. But this was pilot error or inexperience (google it for the whole story) as it was something like he had the chance to bring it down safely but chose to trouble shoot or something like that but by that time it was too late and his jet crashed right into a occupied home after he ejected. very very sad story but all too real. It happens way too many times at small civil airports as well, quite a few like the recent North Las Vegas crashes by light aircraft into homes 2 were like weeks between them or something like that here in LA its crazy we use the John Wayne Airport to avoid the LAX zones but many light aircraft have fallen here as well and across the country thankfully hitting homes is still the minority but it does happen as any pilot knows . We have a PRS system installed (google it) in our plane for a worst case event btw. Pardon the rant got a cold and bored.

Dr.Nichole A. MD. AKA Nicki was here.

I never revisit posts or read PM's too mature to argue.

Cool story. To the OP, the tower asks if he can make it to water. He cant make it, he says he is looking for somewhere safe to dump. As you know as a pilot it isnt always convenient and you are not over unpopulated areas all the time when you have a problem.

I always find it hilarious that pilots with thousands of hours of PIC will collapse the nose gear on a highway landing during engine out because they stall in flair.

Complacency will get you every time.

Likewise, thousands of people die in car accidents every year by making the same dumb mistakes.

Very true.

Those quick flashes to check a text turn into full seconds, into full minutes - next thing you know, entire miles go by without looking at the road.

I see it every day as a truck driver.
Those rumble strips on the shoulder and center get used by more people than you'd think.
