Christian Slater should have won an oscar.
He played this character brilliantly.
shareWatch this, then watch Broken Arrow and then watch True Romance.
An Oscar for what?! He's exactly the same guy in all of them. He's got the range of a water pistol.
He's a "personality" not an actor. That's the trouble with Hollywood, to many "personalities" and not enough actors.
An Oscar...Sheesh!
Ha. True. And if you watch Heathers, you'll realise that he's an older version of Jason Dean.
I simply am not there...
I thought he was amazing in this movie. His character is one that you can't decide whether you love or hate - he's always teetering in-between.
Amazing acting all around. Jeremy Piven was also a standout for me. "We're GOOSED!"
I've always thought it was hysterical how he keeps screaming that over and over and over again. GOOSED! GOOSED! GOOSED! I can't watch the scenes where he does that without breaking into hysterics.
"Never, Never, Never...Throw Chips At A Driver"
I agree...an underrated and unappreciated movie and performance by all. I revel in this deliciously black movie every time I watch it. ITS JUST A MOVIE people. Enjoy it for the hilariously over the top wickedness it is!

I just finished watching this film again, just realized it was over a decade old now. Christian Slater was great, especially after he kills Lois and gets back into the car all like, "Okay, here's the plan....". Then he shows off the scratch mark, hillarious.
shareIt's hard to give all the kudos to him...not that I could imagine many others pulling it off but I think it's as much a combination of the character itself being so awesome and the casting decision for Slater to play him...as some others have alluded to, it probably wasn't that much of a stretch for Slater, but the genius was the character itself being such a perfect psycho.
shareI was coming in here to post how amazing Slater was when I saw this thread. Normally he plays variations on himself but here he was so committed, so forceful in his decisions that he really truly created a classic performance. Very Bad Things is really his finest hour. I loved him in True Romance but he's even better here.
Today he can't catch a decent gig and that kinda sucks so I hope he invested his money well.
For playing this one-note psychopath that spends most of the time yelling on top of his lungs? There were moments when this schtick did kinda work, but mostly he merely demonstrated that there really isn`t much to him as an actor.
"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan
Definitely a great performance. What a psycho!
Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
