Hardly. Strangeland was the beginning of the fantastically-dubbed "torture porn" film fad that the Saw & Hostel movies are raping for every possible penny.
You want to see some really sick, modern movies, try Martyrs, Inside, High Tension, Frontiers...basically french horror is where to go nowadays to really get freaked/grossed out.
