Melania would have been deported under Trump's new ban
Before she was the third Mrs. Donald Trump , and Trophy Wife #2, she was Melania Knauss - an aspiring model from Solvenia who came to America on a 'tourist' visa. However, while on that tourist visa she did something violating the terms of her visa - she was paid $20,000 for working seven weeks as a fashion model while pretending to be a 'tourist'. Later on, she acquired legal permission to work in the country.
She applied for a Green Card in 2001, and Naturalization in 2006 when she married Trump, never disclosing her 'past indiscretions' from 1996 when applying to both, committing fraud - according to papers acquired by the AP.
Under Trump's new ban, he wants the immigration officials to prioritize: top priority is the removal of any foreign national who has “engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter or application before a government agency”.
Melania falls into this category as she first violated the terms of her Visa, and then later defrauding the government when applying for citizenship.
Trophy Wife #2 could still be deported - theoretically - under Trump's January 25 Exec Order. He's ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to actively target and deport people who were technically violating the rules, insisting that if immigrants violate US law in any way, “they have to go". That includes under past Presidents - such as Obama and Bush 43 - of the recent past.
Let's hope Homeland Security acts on Melania in the very near future.
