Only 2 Nomintations? Seriously?

I am sure that there are others of you who may feel exactly the same way that I do here within the discussion group alone, not to mention the vast amount of people who I personally have discussed this movie with, who agree that both performances (Giovanni & Juliette) were deserving of an award or two. So when I noticed that it was on Starz Drama today, I thought what the heck, been a while, why not watch it? I mean it's the weekend, not much better to do and the fact that I also truly enjoy the movie, so as I already said, I took the time to watch it. Out of curiosity, I finally got around to doing what I've always meant to do, so I looked to check what awards the film had been given, as all those discussions I mentioned before re: this movie with others, I have always heard my sentiments echoed that these performances were wonderful and had to of been a list of awards to it's credits, especially when you know, are related, have worked with, or just in general spent ANY quality time with anyone who may have any mental retardation issues what-so-ever, these actors did their homework and did an excellent job of portraying this special demographic within the population. They did not over do the acting, but instead took the roles to just the right level. Instead, I discovered that they only received 2 noms, and zero wins. One of the nominations wasn't even reflective of the talent, but instead a complete slap in the face "Razzie" nom for Worst Supporting Actress, Juliette Lewis. Although, there is absolutely NOTHING that can be done proactively in this situation, I just wanted to get others views on this to see where I stand in comparison to the online message board contributors. Am I, and the others who I know for a fact are in agreement with me, missing something here? Is there some form of subliminal hypnosis taking place over us causing us to believe that the movie and acting is actually worse than what we THINK we are witnessing, or is it the reviewers and nominators who had it all wrong? What do you think?

I rated this a 9 years ago....and just re-watched it tonight. Still a 9!!! An incredibly unique movie with wonderful performances!!!

Its ridiculous that Juliette was nominated for Worst anything for this let alone SUPPORTING. She's the Lead!!!!!!! The story is focused on her!!!!! Awards voters and critics are the dumbest people alive after reality TV stars.

That right there is why I can't stand the Razzies and I don't take anything they "say" seriously. I can't believe what I just read! Some of their nominations are just baffling. I'm not one for most critics but that is where I draw the line. I can't believe they have any credibilty.

Kubrick was nominated for a worst director Razzie for The Shining. That says it all. Not that The Other Sister was a great film or anything. I'm just pointing out the absurdity of those awards.

The performances by the two leads, were picture perfect. Of acting school, "exhibit a" great. The hand nuances, the voice intonations, and the sensitivities generally associated to the mentally retarded were there is just the right amount.

These were amazing performances. Heartbreakingly and hauntingly beautiful. In a perfect world, the performances would have been better acknowledged. The silver lining here, is that the two of them, in their very poignant performances have enriched the image of mental retardation. Juliette L. did this by showing a high level of emotional intelligence at various times. Giovanni R. showed a high level of earnest, a wonderful work ethic and leadership.
