Does anyone else besides me find the mother to be very bossy, smothering
and just plain bossy? I did. Maybe it's just me but I wasn't really surprised when Carla tried to run away. Throughout the film, she says no to a lot of things that Carla wants to do even if they would be good for her (such as going to school or getting her own apartment). If it were up to her, Carla would be wrapped in a bubble. Carla said it clearly towards the end: "I'm just me, mom. Can't you see me?" I can understand being worried about your child trying to make it on his or her own in this big world but if the world knocks them down, the mother and father have to learn to let go so that child can learn to get back up on their own. Carla's life is her responsiblity, not her mothers, and she knows it.
Money isn't the root of all evil. Love of money is.
