Hi everyone, can someone help me with a line from the movie. I try to hear it, but each time it's like it's mumbled. in the beginning when Carla first comes home, Jeff asks Radley if he needs help with the luggage. and then I can't understand Radley's answer. does anyone know? thank you!
Ridley first nods to say no, then says: "Thanks. say 'hello' to Carla."
I have it dvr'd and checked this scene (with the closed captioning helping me figure out that Ridley says this), and it actually is an interesting issue when examined, so good thread. The directing could have been better to convey this but, Jeff clearly was nervous and trying to get away from the situation (with the excuse of helping with the bags), and Carla's dad was matter-of-fact in letting Jeff know to treat Carla as any guest arriving, rather than trying to "run away" as if Carla was some anomaly he couldn't be near... the toolbox! It's his fiance's sister, not some alien! This movie is not perfect, but it is little things like this that make it much better than people realize. Yes, it is cliched in many parts, and the direction is off (making parts like with Jeff wanting to carry the bags hard to follow). Nonetheless, the subtlety of scenes like this, show certain important things, like how Jeff is as guilty as his stupid fiance, in that neither treat Carla like an actual human being. (Caroline being worse because it's her own sister and all she cares about is her stupid nail polish and marrying an up-and-coming douche bag yuppie.)
Wow, I went on a tangent when simply answering your question, haha.
Thank u so much w the help! Honestly I never really thought of him as wanting to get out. So that made me look at this scene in a whole different way. Thank you again!
