Great ending kinda rips off Three Days of the Condor?

As far as Eurocrime movies go, this one is shockingly plot-driven and actually fairly involving from that standpoint. There's actually something resembling tension throughout the movie and Merli actually feels vulnerable at times (he never did in his other movies, even the ones in which he gets killed). I love how downbeat the ending is and that it's something of a cliff-hanger with the bad guy's chilling final line coupled with a series of quick shots of all the characters we'd met up to that point who may get in the way of "getting back to Italy". I just watched the Robert Redford movie Three Days of the Condor last night for the first time and was startled how similar the ending of the movie was, though missing the quick-cut flashback shots. It is a pretty startling and effective way to close a movie though; putting a chill up the audience's spine that even though it seems like the hero just pulled off a stunning victory that it -may- be all for nought.
