the trailer for this movie sets it up as a comedy when actually it has a lot more drama than the trailer suggests. and they completely leave out the HUGE part about duchovny's wife who died.
That's very common IMO. Mainly because the studio usually makes the trailer(s), not the director.
The studio must've made the decision that making this look like a comedy will bring in more money...

I haven't seen the trailer for this. I'd never even heard of this movie until today...when I watched it at a friends house...but No Reservations did the same thing. They made it look like it was going to be a romantic comedy when in fact it was hardly a comedy at all...it was drama-drama-drama...then like five minutes of light-heartedness...then back to drama...
I thought this movie was pretty funny though. Even when there was drama I didn't feel like it was too much. Maybe if I watched it again I'd feel it more...but I know I laughed many times too.
