i'm 20 minutes in - are they going to actually explain what happened?

One minute they're dancing and the next minute he's got blood all over him and they're in the hospital. I get that there was an accident of some kind but are they going to SHOW what transpired? I don't really like that they just skipped to the next scene like that. i mean WTF

or maybe the version i'm watching is missing a scene....

As the medical staff is wheeling Elizabeth down the hall you can hear them talking about the car accident that she was in, but you're right - that scene changes mood and tone very abruptly. I always felt as though the director filmed the scene that way so that the audience feels just how quickly life can change. One minute you're enjoying yourself at a party, the next minute your loved one is gone. Likewise, Grace's life changes in a split second - one minute she's barely able to breathe on her own, and with the gift of a heart she's able to resume a life with normal activity.

That was the point. The abruptness of all of it and how normal life just keeps ticking. Pretty well done for a movie I thought was going to be a soft romance.

I bet you wanted to see the head in the box in Se7en too?

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I understand that you want everything SHOWN.

However, that would be another movie, and this was this movie.

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.
