If Wah Sing Ku was planning to burn them all alive, why didn't they just shoot them?

I mean it would have saved them a lot of time if they just shot them as opposed to tying them all and setting the house on fire. Why wouldn't they just shoot them?

So he didn't just want to kill them. He wanted them to have a slow and very painful death. He was also a sadist. Correct?

Yeah, but I feel sure I could give Jet Li (Wah Sing Ku) a good kicking without that bead thing. Hong was an old man.
