The psycho persona he potrayed in the first 2 films would have seen him tear Jet Li a new one, yeah Jet Li was one tough MOFO in this but the unstable nature of Riggs in 1 + 2 and his superior fitness would have made it a much better match up!

Even though Jet Li was good it would've been a way closer fight. I love LW3 and LW4 as much as the first two but Riggs as a hand to hand fighter got a lot weaker as the series progressed I noticed that in 3 and 4 that he loses the majority of his fights. It's a little dissapointing, the end scene of the first movie was one of my favorite fight scenes and since that it seemed the fights went downhill. It's ok though because all the action scenes improved.

Well yeah that's the point, he just got comfortable and the suicidal tendancies of the first film coupled with his rage and aggression added to his toughness.

You do have a point, it’s been a few years since I seen the first Lethal Weapon movie but I think it was alluded in the first movie that Martin Riggs was proficient in several of the martial arts disciplines. Which begs to question to why the hell did have so much trouble with Jet Li’s character in this installment? Maybe being older softened him up quite a bit or you could chalk it up to contrived writing.

Riggs had already huge problems against Joshua. I think the fight between LW1 Riggs and Jet Li would have been about the same as in LW4, but a lot longer.
