There was an article on thedissolve.com about a potential Lethal Weapon 5 in which the torch was passed to the next generation (http://thedissolve.com/news/2192-justin-lin-may-make-a-lethal-weapon-film-with-chri/). This was in the comments:
As a fan of the franchise (particularly the first two movies), I have to say I'm surprised that I don't think this is a horrible idea. One of the charms of the Lethal Weapon series was how it allowed the characters to grow and change. Murtagh's family was always a part of the series and always growing, and Rigg's maturity was also a part of the series. By the last fourth film, it felt like a sitcom (often to its detriment) in that it was familiar and, yet, good to check in with the characters. Passing the torch to Riggs' son (and I assume Murtaugh's...grandson?) would actually be in line with what the series has done. Although I'd particularly like to see one of the duo (if they go that route) being a girl. Would be a nice, new dynamic.
In general, I think Lethal Weapon is the ultimate franchise that doesn't need to be continued. However, if it absolutely HAS to be done, that would probably be the best (or least bad) option. Better than the rumored reboot in which we get to watch young stars try and fail to replicate the Mel Gibson/Danny Glover chemistry, and better than a Lethal Weapon 5 in which we watch them try and fail to pull off stunts that they really are too old for nowadays.
Fichtre! Voila qu'on me tue mes morts.
