One of my fave parts of the entire LW series. Before Lorna gives birth..
No matter how many times I watch the Lethal Weapon movie series, this one little scene gets me every time.
As Lorna is being wheeled into the delivery room, Martin and Leo are there with her. Martin, of course, being the father, needs to be there, but there's really no reason for Leo to be there. Martin takes Leo outside, saying "your work is done here. I think somebody else needs you", and he goes back into the delivery room. Leo seems saddened as he says "good luck Lorna and Riggs", and starts to turn and walk away.
Just then, Martin pops back out and says "Leo, thanks a lot. He reaches his hand out to shake Leo's hand, then gives him a big hug. He tells him to stick around and meet the kid, and disappears back into the delivery room. Leo yells a "good luck, Lorna", and smiling, starts to fix his hat.
I don't know why, but that to me is one of the sweetest scenes in the entire series, or in any film. Just a few minutes before that scene, Leo was telling Martin how he didn't have any friends growing up, and how Riggs and Murtaugh looked after him a lot more than they had to. Martin said that they were terrible to him, but Leo responds that they are indeed his family, and his friends. And when Leo is getting ready to walk away from the delivery room, that little acknowledgement by Riggs tells Leo that they do think of him as family. It's one of those little nuggets that you could miss in a film if you aren't paying close attention, but Gibson and Pesci play it absolutely perfectly.
