Who remembers the John McLane cameo rumour?

There was a GREAT rumour doing the internet rounds, pre-release in 1998, that John McLane would have a cameo in this. AICN reported it. My first thought on hearing the rumour was 'no-way', as the series are made by different studios. And as Harry Knowles himself said, would Willis be helping the competition, with Armageddon out that same summer? But than I remembered Joel Silver was the producer on the early instalments of each series, so MAYBE the characters could all exist in the same universe.

Of course, the rumour turned out to be BS. But it would have been cool if it was true. I suppose the Willis cameo in Loaded Weapon 1 is the closest we'll ever see to John McLane in a Lethal Weapon film!
