Can Riggs beat jet Li? - Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) Discussion

It's very hard to have an answer for this. My hunch says no, only because Jet Li's character seems to be one hell of a fighter, 10 times better than anyone he fights.

Riggs always struck me as a guy who knew martial arts well but he never had any opponents like Jet Li.

There's another thread discussing this and someone said the fights would have been closer than in LW4. I agree, a young Riggs would at least be a worthy opponent for Jet Li. But actually winning? I doubt it.

10 Times better? He was kicking the crap out of Riggs and Murtah.

But he did lose to them.
Riggs (Exceptional Fighter) Murtah (Basic Fighting)
To say that he is 10 times tougher is too much. Maybe 2 times. But He lost in a 2 V 1.

I think it would be a close fight but Ultimately it would be a loss by Riggs.

I think if we truly are comparing this there should be more than just hand to hand.

Hand to Hand
Melee Weapon vs Melee Weapon(non projectile)
Weapon vs Weapon

In this case Riggs would win in Weapon and might lose to Melee Weapon

Riggs didn't do too bad at his age. Back in the day, all things being equal, that would be a helluva fight.

I don't count the win right there. Jet Li was already stabbed through the stomach with a piece of steel at that point. So before that he was getting his ass kicked. This is a 2 vs 1 Fight.

In a 1 v 1 and a Riggs from the first movie.

Riggs from the first movie was a killer. He had nothing to lose and he knew he was the best. Also he was in his prime fairly close to his combat days. Riggs in LW4 on the other hand was older, slower, less confident, unsure of himself, had himself a family now and much more to lose in life and he still put more blows on Jet Li than any other character in the movie..and not just chicken *beep* blows..he was hurting Jet Li. No doubt the Riggs from LW1 would kill Jet Li's character.

Riggs from LW1 was a suicidal maniac with nothing to lose and backed up by speed, technique and strength! he would absolutely murder Li in LW4.

Mr. Joshua versus Wa Sing Ku
Gary busey vs Jet Li

Mr Joshua does last long against Riggs, who was just mentioned as a suicidal animal, and Almost drowns Riggs In that one on one fight on the front lawn. (needlessly 2 cops die before this scene)That being said,

Riggs has rocky type strength and toughness.

I can't speak for Riggs from LW1 since I haven't seen it in so damn long, but Jet Li in this film was a beast. I found it highly unbelievable that he lost to Riggs and Murtaugh at the end. Sure, he was injured before he even fought, but still; he was whooping on them and everyone else throughout the film. The steel pipe through the gut sealed it, but it felt cheap.

Cena doesn't overcome any odds. He's a wrestler with a God Mode cheat on.

Bruce??? Are you sure about Mel's biases. His character was married by a rabbi and mentioned bar mitzah. Gibson probably had some script control.

Even Riggs from the first movie would be too slow to beat Li, he would have to hang on and hope for a chance to make a king hit or find something heavy to knock him out with.

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.
