Nah. Lethal Weapon was usually intense and bloody but always ended with a happy ending. I see no reason to break with tradition.
I like the ending as is. The movies follow a loose arc around Riggs being slowly re-socialized (mostly through his friendship with Murtaugh) from the PTSD'd, suicidal, out on control lunatic he was at the beginning of the first movie. Finishing it with him happily married and a father is a great way to complete that story arc. And having that family intertwined with the Murtaughs reinforces that it was that friendship that made it all happen.
There are people who hate the "family sitcom" atmosphere they think LW degenerated into, but I thought it fit very well.
Fichtre! Voila qu'on me tue mes morts.
I agree with you ^
shareIn Hong Kong, you'd already be dead.

My life fades... the vision dims... all that remains are memories
Riggs was originally written to be killed off in this movie. Bit Donner said no.
