A Few Things - SPOILERS -
First I would like to say that I liked this movie.
To the people who first watched this movie in the past 5 years and talk about how unoriginal it is or how it has been done so many times before and they are bored with it : Remember, this movie was made in 1995-1996 and released in 1998. Most of the movies you have seen that are of the 'found-footage' type are copying the style of this movie.
All those who say this is just a Blair Witch Project rip-off : Both movies were being made at the same time and the coincidences are just that, coincidences. I believe both movies have strong and weak points and neither movie is necessarily 'better' than the other.
I have seen several real narrator driven documentaries and as far as the overall tone of this movie, they hit the bull's eye. The interview and footage editing is convincing enough to make a person believe that this could be an actual documentary right up to the end.
So many people have a problem with how this film ends. The fact that it veers from the documentary style and/or found-footage to reveal the killer in a cut away to the film restoration expert is perfect. It allows us to follow the killer into the woods to see him filming footage we have already seen as part of our 'true' documentary.
The over-all tone of this movie hit the mark and the 'found-footage' footage was shot well as was the documentary portion, and the end reveal was well planned and executed.
As one of the first of its' kind this 'found-footage' movie was worth the watch and every bit as good as The Blair Witch Project.
