I can't believe I used to think this was a good movie
After the abominations of episodes 1 and 2, I actually left the theater in 2005 and thought this was a good movie. :(
shareAfter the abominations of episodes 1 and 2, I actually left the theater in 2005 and thought this was a good movie. :(
shareThis was by far the most painful movie to watch.
shareAnakin's rush into the dark side is way too fast. One minute he is literally condemning the Jedi for being evil from his point of view, the next minute he is killing children.
He can't believe he chops off Mace Windu's arms and wishes he hadn't done it, and then he bows to Palpatine and goes and massacres the same people he trained with and fought with for the last 13 years.
Anakin finds out from Palpatine, after turning to the dark side, that they will have to find the secret together to save Padme, yet was just told minutes earlier that Palpatine knew the secret already to save Padme... that was the big wake up call that HEY maybe Palpatine is a big liar?
Anakin proceeds to nearly snap off Padme's neck, yet moments earlier was trying to save her life. Yeah, I don't care what dark side you turn to, you don't kill the very person you are aiming to save.
Sloppy movie and far too rushed. A rewrite of the entire prequel trilogy would be nice to see, but chances are it would somehow end up being worse than what we got.
These movies just weren't well written, but the stuff is in there. They just aren't emphasized so we as audiences can dramatically extract meaning out of them.
Anakin turned to the dark side out of fear for losing Padme. He'd lost his mother so he had that life experience to bring out the worst of human emotions. He was scared. He turned to it through intimidation. He made a choice. It's quite tragic really.
But the problem with these movies is the directing and writing doesn't highlight the drama of the story. Lucas needed a script doctor here.
I think Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequels. I just wish Lucas would have made better movies, but honestly...all the stuff is there, it's just not emphasized or explored.
It's clear that the final scripts for the prequels were like a rough, unfinished first draft of what should have been. Remember all those people back in the 70s who helped rewrite Lucas' original vision of Star Wars into something more digestible. Totally absent.
~ I'm a 21st century man and I don't wanna be here.
Let's not forget 3 Jedi Masters don't manage to deflect a single stroke of Palpatine's slow moving lightsaber. Or he very awful character, General Grevious.
I think as far as the prequels go, Episode 1 is the only one the feels like a Star Wars movie. Might be the worst Star Wars movie, but 2 and 3 aren't even Star Wars movies
Yeah... pretty much. Mace took some of the best Jedi Masters with him, they were prepared mentally on the shuttle flight over to the Chancellor's office that they would have to deal with Palpatine--The dark lord of the Sith they had been looking for. Instead, those 3 Jedi Masters are caught completely off guard by a spinning Palpatine who thrusts a couple times and takes them all out.
They trained for decades, fought many battles--especially during the Clone Wars, and then die because they were surprised Palpatine thrust at them with a lightsaber? The first thing a Jedi, in training or an experienced master, does is deflect a thrusting lightsaber. That scene made me cringe, even in the theatre on first viewing.
Agree with ya here. I can still remember me and my older brother watching in the theater when the 3...3!! Jedi Masters died *so quickly* we both said exactly at the same time "Gee...that was fast!"
Lucas should've had 'em put up a better fight. They went in prepared to face a Sith Master (the one they've been looking for for the last 15 odd years), their "Specialty", and they get made to look like absolute fools and get absolutely demolished.
Kit Fisto lasted the longest(besides Mace obvie) at say what...6 seconds? Notice the look of absolute fear on his face. Bad writing.
That particular part was just plain silly.
Silly Silly Silly.

He should of fried two immediately with force lightning, would of made it more plausible
shareAye, Palpatine using force lightning instead of thrusting his saber would have made a lot more sense, it probably had been ages since these Jedi Masters encountered anything like this, if at all, so it would have been a surprise.
shareYes, it happened to a lot of people: you just needed closure, you had it and you were happy.
The same happened to a lot of people with TFA: they wanted Star Wars back, they got it and they were happy.
All good for a while, but sooner or later reality hits and everybody has to face their own fears.
Except the force awakens is actually a decent film. It has its problems but nothing that ruins the film completely.
share"Decent" does not mean "great" : Star Wars is supposed to be GREAT not just decent. I fail to see your point.
You have no taste in movies
Force awakens actually had real characters with a plot
Revenge of the sith has no plot, the characters are awful at best, and the soundtrack is quite medicore
TFA is remembered while no one talks about revenge of the sith
I concur.
TFA is a good start and hopefully will get better from there
Werd 2 ur mudda, bruddafckka
TFA is remembered while no one talks about revenge of the sith
The most relevance rots ever had in pop culture is when trump got elected
But outside of this message board even star wars fans are hard pressed to talk about any of the PT without it turning into a "I hate these films more than you" contest
THE SOUNDTRACK IS MEDIOCRE!?!?! Sure you can call the movie mediocre but a John Williams soundtrack!?!?!?
shareAfter Attack of the Clones, I too thought ROTS was an amazing bounce-back. But that's not saying much, as Ep. II is easily the worst Star Wars film.
