Why would they cast an actor older (months mind you) than Padme to play Anakin? It was obvious that he was years younger than her in The Phantom Menace. Was there ever a good explanation and not just a fanboy one?
So she could be a queen who looked like young adult in the first film, someone who could speak to senators and federation representatives as an equal, and not a figurehead who let a regent run things.
Also, to make their love seem impossible at first. When they first meet, she's a queen and a beautiful young woman, and he's a little prepubescent slave boy.
