Why would they cast an actor older (months mind you) than Padme to play Anakin? It was obvious that he was years younger than her in The Phantom Menace. Was there ever a good explanation and not just a fanboy one?

Anakin's maybe 8 or 9 years old, Padme is around 14, though yeah she looks more 17 or 18, because that's what Natalie was during filming. She was born in 81 and he was born in 89, so only an 8 year difference really. Phantom Menace released in 1999.
