Did Mace Windu really defeat Darth Sidious?

From IMDb QA:

Yes. It was always written, scripted and filmed for Windu to be the clear victor of the duel. He was the most powerful Jedi of the order as well as the head of the Jedi council. However, it is known that Palpatine is also extremely powerful in the dark side of the Force, and it is plausible that perhaps foreseeing Windu defeating him and sensing Anakin approaching, Palpatine threw the fight.

Well that's REALLY helpful!

Who the hell answered that question? He didn't answer anything at all! That's the whole point of someone ASKING the question.

Anyway, if Windu is so powerful and so much of a head of the Jedi Councel, how come he didn't see Anakin slashing his arm coming?

I believe Windu is supposed to be the best with a lightsaber and tight ropes with the darkside when fighting so he probably did beat Sidious straight up, I dont think he threw the fight

As for Anakin it is obviously quite unexpected for your partner to attack you and im sure Windu was focused on Sidious who just moments ago tried to fry with with lightning. He wasnt and shouldnt of been worried about Anakin

reply

The book said he threw the fight to get anakins favor

reply

The book sais no such thing.

Yes Mace did defeat Sidious, Mace was one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy and considered one of the greatest duelist of all time, He is said to hold his own against Count Doku(A master of lightsaber combat and one of the most skilled Force users)...Sidious on the other hand although being a remarkable duelist focused his potential on his force powers, that is where he really made his name as one of the finest force users ever...So that being said Mace definitely is a better duelist and that is why he was able to last so long against Sidious and ultimately disarming and defeating him.

Like i said in my earlier post, Sidious was an exceptional force user, his Force lightning was said to be his most valuable Ace Card and deadliest power...On the other hand,Mace honed his talents on lightsaber combat(even creating "vapad" a new lightsaber form) not so much on force abilities, so he truly was unprepared for Sidious's onslaught of force lightning to be soo powerful...Mace did not develop his force powers to the level of Yoda, who was one of the most powerful force user's of all time and was able to quickly neutralize force lightning. As a result Windu was forced to dedicate more of a heightened sense of focus on Sidious and not Anakin (whom he believed was not a imminent threat)...Also in the official Book Revenge Of The Sith, Mace believed Sidious to be the "shatterpoint" of the war and that by in defeating him he would end the war...so Mace Focused all his attention on killing Sidious,he was truly amazed when Anakin slashed his arm...only then realizing Anakin Skywalker was the shatterpoint.

Palpatine was only allowed to rule the galaxy because Anakin helped make it happen. Had Anakin stayed out of it, Mace Windu would have wiped out Palpatine right there, Obi-Wan and Yoda would have returned to Coruscant and the Jedi would have explained the situation to the Senate.

Mace didn't see Anakin preparing to slash his arms off because he had to use his full concentration of the force during the battle with Palpatine, we can see this when the camera does a closeup of both Mace and Palpatine during the fight.

Because the prequels suck.

i think windu did kick palpatine's kiester, and palpatine was going to lose anyway but he had anakin in his corner so it appeared like the fight was a fix. Also, I heard before the movie came out that Samuel L Jackson knew he was going to be killed so he wanted a meaningful death scene, which is the script was written that he almost beat Palpatine. Also, in Attack Of The Clones Anakin mentioned that he wanted to be wise like Yoda and powerful as Windu; windu did a better job in combat against palpatine than yoda did.

I really believe Palpatine felt Anakin was coming and threw the fight just in time!

In my opinion, Mace did legitimately beat Sideous and was the better fighter. One on one, Mace wins. However, I also think Palpatine did purposely lose at the exact second he did because he knew Anakin was coming. I think Palpatine knew he wasn't going to beat Mace, so he decided to lose on HIS terms, and make himself look helpless and weak and make Mace look ruthless and bad. He could have kept on fighting, but Mace would have won eventually anyways and it ruins the allusion of the Jedi assassinating him if he looks fully powerful.

So again, Mace won and was better than Sideous, but Sideous still threw the fight since he knew he'd lose regardless.

Bringing Anakin into that fight and having him kill Mace was an easy way to push Anakin past the point of no return. If Palpatine had killed Mace and then Anakin showed up after, he wouldnt have necessarily turned against the Jedi the same way.
