The casting needs work.

It took me almost 17 years to give this a chance.
Wolverine is not a 6 foot poster boy.
Whoopie would have made a better Storm.
Rogue...what?
McKellen as a frail old man in a stupid helmet...that's not Magneto.
and there's a much better Xavier out there...
i know it.

Well he's right the cast was fine. Especially Hugh Jackman. He had the perfect look for that role. As for Storm I think Angela Bassett would have been great for it but I was fine with Halle too.

I'm constantly amazed at how many people still use meth, even though they know how bad it is for them. 

The casting was great. It was the execution of the characters that was poor.

We don't learn anything about the X-men once Logan gets to the mansion. It's like they filmed the beginning and end and didn't know what to put in the 2nd act. The existing X-men never feel like a family, or interact with one another.

Just think about Fellowship of the Ring, half of the fellowship don't even show up until half way through the movie yet we never feel like we don't know them.

You never get the sense in X-men that Cyclops,Storm or Jean had any kind of life before Wolverine shows up.

Nope. I love the casting

Different cast, same suits and no change in the film’s tone. You know what you would say then? “Ah, this movie needs so much work”.

The cast was nothing short of perfect. There’s no denying their look and appearance in the movie isn’t 100% faithful to the source material (the X-Men films in general haven’t been the live-action adaptions some have wished for), but given the fact superhero movies weren’t viewed in a serious manner back then, making changes that would translate better to the screen was a right move. Ditching the flashier suits from the comics? That was a good start. And to take a slightly different approach to the characterization of the heroes - sorry but a diminutive Wolverine wouldn’t have made the same impression - worked out for the best.

17+ years later and these roles and the actors associated with them have become iconic (mainly Jackman, Stewart, McKellen), so... ha!
