I think you're reading too much into it, ooydoboora. The Blu-ray release simply didn't have much extras because it is (1) a catalog release and (2) it was a box office flop. The studio simply will not put much effort into something that isn't popular. Still yet, another reason could be for lack of extras is double-dipping, and while it was a box office flop, it has a somewhat small cult following. Enthusiasts would want a remastered version as the current Blu-ray instance is derived from the DVD master.
The original prints were lost in a fire on the Universal lot, but a copy was found in Europe. There hasn't been a 4K remaster for future releases that I know of, but I think I'll be putting off purchase of the current Blu-ray release for a better version. Since its release in theaters, the world still hasn't seen the full color potential from the Fujifilm Velvia prints. I sure do hope that that is soon.
