I thought from the start that this movie was a retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus, who tries and fails to win back his wife from the Underworld. The ending of the story has been changed for the film. Does anyone else here see the similarities?

Yes I did too. I'm a fan of that particular Greek Myth, so as the movie was playing out I was constantly reminded of it. Being the type of movie that it was, I don't think it could have ended in the traditional way of tragedy. But fun none the less.
