So many things to love...

Velvet Goldmine is such a rich experience for the mind and senses. The costumes, soundtrack, and Toni Collette and Ewan McGregor's performances all come to mind as the first things I loved about this movie. What else? There are so many nuanced moments to appreciate; here are a few:

Jack Fairy's glance in the mirror as he glides by Slade's fans in the opening credits. Also the "who's Jack Fairy?" dialogue. He's not worried that he'll be run over by a mob of screaming fans, not at this point in his career.

The close-up details in the scene where Christian Bale unwraps the record he bought and puts it on. I feel like I'm right there.

Ewan/Curt as a satyr dropping into a chimney. A sort-of wtf moment that I love.

When the two kids are playing with dolls resembling Brian and Curt, we don't know the kids' genders. I'll say what I think: one of them is a boy. (Did the kids get crafty to make the dolls look that way? probably!)

Satellite of Love: how you can see Curt really falling in love, and Brian playing it up and making a show of it. I get the same feeling from their reactions to the press after their kiss later in the movie.

What other little things do people love in this movie?

Haven't seen the film for years after having seen it once at the theater and then purchasing it on DVD. But what I can remember:

Ewan's nudity.

Jonathan's nudity.

Christian's nudity.

That is all.
