Could be longer

Being this good and deep, this movie run time could have used an extra hour to elaborate more each theme and possibly add some more.
It feels like it was compressed and cut down to fit the schedule of cinema theatres. Fuck them, nowadays they would release it differently and keep all the extra footage they were foced to leave out of this masterpiece. Imagine if they did the same to Lawrence of Arabia and fit it to multiplexes bs.

Malick should get with his editor and release a TTRL Redux cut.

If he couldn’t tell a cohesive story in 3 hours....what makes you think an extra hour would fix anything?

It would just be more shots of grass blowing in the wind and animal wildlife filling precious minutes because there is no story lol.

reply

Woosh!
You did not get shit about this film, did ya?
If you want a "cohesive story", you are looking in the wrong media.
Get your grandma to tell you a bedtime story, not masterpiece cinema.

TTRL does not need fixing, it is so good that the longer the better and I know they had to cut out a ton of material because of short attention span idiots. And it feels like it wanted to show even more.

I want to see the extra 300 hours that didn't make it into Heavens Gate.

Ahahah! That was sooooo funny!!! It also showcases your deep knowledge in filmmaking!

I love this movie and I love Malick's work in general but I do feel that the runtime is fine the way it is. Any film with a runtime of over 2 hours really needs to justify it. And with The Thin Red line I feel that the story is sufficiently told within the runtime of the release that we got.
