WHAT IN JUPITERS BALLS.....

Did I just finish watching???

This director made a lot of money to make you rather watch paint dry.

Good God

reply

Just finished watching it too. Has it agaed terribly or has it always been an over-hyped pretensious snore fest.

reply

I vote pretentious like all his other snorefest films

reply

It did go on a bit didn’t it.

reply

A friend of mine and I saw this one in the theater all those years ago when it was released and TO THIS DAY we talk about how dull the film was and how it just went on, and on, and ON.

It's possibly the most boring war movie of all time, and it just feels interminable.

reply

You should watch "The New World" by the same director. It's a very similar experience. It seems to be a hallmark of this director. Yet he has a reputation as a "Great Artiste," which just convinces me that society is full of snobs, who profess to like some frankly pretty dull, pretentious crap, because it allows them to claim they have higher, more refined taste than the hoi polloi, who supposedly lack the wit or understanding to understand "true" art.

reply

I actually watched The New World, once, years ago. I barely remember it though, so I guess that tells you what kind of impact it made on me.

The only film of his that I enjoyed at all is Tree of Life. It at least had some elements that I found interesting.

reply

im sorry its not marvel avengers 26

reply

Not sure what you mean moron, but I don’t like marvel, avengers or any super hero movies.

reply

this aint napoleon dynamite either son

reply

Are you like seven years old? I mean, with all the name calling and obvious inability to put forth an adult comment....

reply

Really? I thought there was quite a bit of action.

reply

Back in 1998 someone tried to tell me this was better than Saving Private Ryan

reply

I would wholeheartedly agree with them. I think The Thin Red Line is a magnificent movie.

reply

Ummmm OK good for you, most people agree with me however.

reply

I thought you did not appeal to popularity? You called that a logical fallacy. Hypocrite!

reply

I never said that made SPR a better movie but it’s still and objective fact that more people agree with me. Don’t put words in my mouth again

reply

It is also an objective fact Last Crusade is more liked than Temple of Doom. What was the point in saying that if you were not appealing to popularity?

reply

I never said it wasn’t, but you’ll never change my opinion and I have proven that Last Crusade is an objectively bad movie and I didn’t need to appeal to popularity

reply

No you have not proven that number one. Okay then if you did not need to appeal to authority why did you bring up the popular opinion?

reply

I never said that it proved SPR was a better film, I was simply pointing out that more people agree with me and that is true, the objective data supports it.

reply

Yet you did not like when someone referenced the data with Last Crusade. That is hypocritical. I never said it proved Last Crusade was a better film but the objective data agrees with me in it being better than Temple of Doom. I can make that same claim.

reply

I never argued the data, but it won’t change my mind.

reply

Then do not expect the data to change anyone else's mind.

reply

I don't, I'm just pointing it out.

reply

What was the point in pointing it out?

reply

It’s an objective fact and that’s all the justification I need

reply

Then I will say that exact same thing about Last Crusade.

reply

LOL not sure what the context is for yalls' little disagreement, but you did definitely try to soft float an appeal to popularity and only back pedaled because you were called out on it

reply

Most people prefer McDonalds junk to a good, healthy meal.
Congrats, your taste and comprehension is average, something to be proud of.

reply

Saving Private Ryan is by all measures one of the greatest war movies ever, fallacious analogy on your part.

reply

Aahahhahahahahhahahahahaahah!
That's a funny one.

reply

It won Best Director, it was nominated for Best Picture (and did win the Golden Globe for Best Drama) and it is in the IMDB top 50 (last time I checked), yep it is one of the greatest war films of all time.

reply

Best director what?
A fucking oscar?
Yes, that is right there a sure sign of quality. Just ask Shakespeare in Love's producers, they'll tell you all about it. IMDB deserves even less respect.

SPR has 20 ok minutes (nothing incredible, just good "realistic" action). The rest is just pandering schmaltz. It would not crack any decent top 20 war movies, let alone top movie list.

reply

Don't be a hypocrite, you know damn well that if TTRL had won the Golden Globe for Best Drama, the Oscar for Best Director and was in the IMDB top 50 you would be using that to discredit SPR. Jealous are you?

reply

And I would because I'm an idiot with no sense of critique that is explained what is worthy by the oscars or the golden globes and, gasp, IMDB? Are you fucking kidding me?

Look, go post on some mainstream board more on your level, instead of trolling real cinema that you clearly are to poorly equipped to understand.

reply

I think The Thin Red Line is disappointing when compared to the book - but it's still better than Saving Private Ryan.

reply

Thin Red Line was riding on Saving Private Ryan's coattails if not it would have made a much less at the box office.
