A mystery regarding voices

Perhaps I missed something, but the entire family that the story centers around is ostensibly living in Beverly Hills while talking like a family of New Yorkers (accent and all). Perhaps I just missed some bit near the beginning that explains this - I'm open to that - but as it stands, when I want to illustrate the point that American filmmakers are only aware of two cities in the entire country, I point out this movie.

^Yeah your right. Sometime after Vivian's mom and dad divorced, Murray moved the kids out to the west coast. Rita was in California by herself while her parents still lived back east. Mickey and Rita's mom (don't remember her name) flew out to see them at the end. Hence the scene at the end where they all converge at the airport, then leave and take Rita with them. At least to my knowledge that's right. There is no explanation for Elliot's New York accent that I remember.

I belive it was mentioned at some point that the Abramowitz family moved to California from the east coast. It didn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that these peoplewere New Yorkers through and through.

Its a freakin Jewish not new yorker. Notice the neighbor guy has the same voice

Not all Jews talk like that. There's no such thing as a "Jewish accent". The neighbor could have been from the East Coast too.
