Vivian should have been played by someone else....

I think Natasha Lyonne was horribly miscasted as Vivian! Now, Natasha's a good actress, but she just didn't it the character Vivian! Vivian is supposed to be a big breasted, big nose, hairy lipped 14 year old Jew! Natasha doesn't have big breasts (in fact, they had to use breast doubles!), doesn't have a big nose, doesn't have a hairy lip, and was 19 years old when she did SOBH!

I disagree. She embodied (I know! Terrible pun!) the role so well, I'll always see her as Vivian. I couldn't believe those breasts weren't hers, because her look seemed to fit so well with them!

She is a good actress and fit the role pretty well, but I have to agree on one thing, she looked so much older then 14. It was really unrealistic, they should have made her 17 if Natasha was going to play the role.

But there are some 14-year-olds that look bigger & older than their age. My 14 year old cousin is taller than me and big (not fat, just tall), and she has the face of a kid

I wouldn't change the casting of this film one bit.

PERFECT casting here! Natasha really nailed this role. She WAS Vivian Abromowitz! Each time it's on, I have to drop everything to watch it. (It's on HBO Signature right now.) Marisa Tomei is fabulous in it as well. Also, LOVED Kevin Corrigan in his role as Eliot. (The expression on his face when he says (while reading from the book Helter Skelter), "The maid discovered the bodies." It's priceless! And, of course, David Krumholtz was excellent as Ben. As for Alan Arkin, he's brilliant as always! Anyway, can't wait to see Natasha in Goyband. She's one of my favorites among young actresses today.

[EDIT] Note: Georgianne Walken was one of the casting directors for this film. I swear...whenever I comment on excellent casting to hubby, her name always seems to pop up!

I really liked Lyonne in this role as well...she wasn't as smart-assy as she usually is in her films...she showed some previously unforeseen vulnerability, a quality I had never seen Lyonne play onscreen before...it was refreshing.

I'm going to have to disagree with the original poster 100%, the casting is flawless. Natasha is Vivian to me, this is the first role I saw her in and whenever I see her I think of Vivian. God, I love this film.

Nobody could have done a better job as Natasha. As many people have already said, she WAS Vivian

well i like natasha lyonne a lot. i mainly rented this because of her. but i didn't buy her as a 14-year-old at all. BUT, i think her character was supposed to look a little older than she was. remember the older boy saying that she looked "BIG" for her age. she hated her mature body, and i think she looked like an over-developed teenager.

I agree that she definitely looked older than 14, but she was completely spot on to me. No one could have done her better and I could never see anyone, but Natasha in that role.
