It wasn't that bad!

I don't understand how anyone could not see the humor in this movie. It was hilarious!!! Don't you agree?

It was funny. Alan Arkin had all the 'good' jokes. Lyonne was the hot eighth-grader (disturbing, that). Else it was takin' us back to the Seventies California we never knew. Best in show goes to Kevin Corrigan who nails it.

My favorite part of the whole movie is when David Krumholtz is in his underwear singing that song from "Guys and Dolls". I don't know why -- I just think it's funny and he's a great actor.

This movie is hilarious!!!!!!! the problem is a lot of the jokes are stuff you need to see like when she's dancing with the vibrator...best scene ever!!!!!!!

Well, i showed it to one of my Jewish friends and when the neighbor said "...I'm Jewish..." and the dad drops the box, she yelled. "OK, I wanna *beep* him now!!!!!"

It's now a traditional "initiating" movie to be part of our "group." You know what's really funny??? Two of the other movies have Natasha Lyonne. But I'm a Cheerleader (OMG!!! first time I ever saw her and I cracked up!!!!) and American Pie

Geez! what did you have this morning? Carnation Instant B#tch??!!

I liked it. It's pretty original, slightly different to most of the Hollywood teen films churned out and the characters are excellent. Interesting characters combines with 70s nostalgia and makes this not a bad film. It's a little weak on storyline but that's partly why I like this film. Along with Dazed & Confused I think it's a pretty good film when you're really tired/bit drunk/staying up all night or whatever.

I saw this film the other day courtesy of LoveFilm. It sat on the couch for a few days until we decided to watch it. I was suspicious it might be some crappy teen movie and was happily surprised when I watched it. A very good coming of age movie with some great acting. A few users have mentioned a great script. I thought the script was okay but not the best. I think it's the acting that makes it a good flick. I like the direction too. Not stagey but stylised enough to give it some cult appeal. A nice bittersweet tale. Incidentally, there have been a few comments about it being about growing up in the 70s. Surely it's early 80s. The plastic surgery references are about the 80s. Did kids growing up in the 70s obsess about changing their bodies? Also Kevin Corrigan remarks that Alan Arkin's car is 'cool'. It's a 70s car and KC drives a 70s Caddy which he says is a collectors item. A 70s Caddy wouldn't be a collectors item in the 70s. However, a liitle research has revealed to me that the book KC is reading (Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi) was published in 1974. Anyone spot anything that can truly give the setting a date?

I also LOVE this film. You mentioned that 'Helter Skelter' was published in 1974, and I am assuming that you mentioned that because you thought the date that the film was supposed to take place in was an earlier time than the time the book had been published. In the very opening of the movie it says on the screen; "Summer 1976". So, it would be absolutely possible for Elliot to have the book.

It was on TV(UK) the other night - I don't know if anyone else saw it.

It was the first time that I've seen the film since I originally saw it a few years back. And it was as good as I remembered it, probably better in fact.

A brilliantly quirky independant movie.

i've seen this movie about 10 times over the years, and it keeps getting better.

I absolutely love this film, it's so irritating though that on the rare occasion it's shown on UK tv, it's at some ungodly hour so nobody watched it!

Non of my friends had even heard of it so I lent them all the DVD and they all thought it was hilarious

Whenever this is on television in England they always put it on at a ridiculous hour - last time was 3.30am.

More people need to see this movie - it's excellent.
