Did any one else notice the similarities to.....

"Father Goose" starring Cary Grant and Leslie Caron? Both take place on a remote island in the same general geographical area. Both involve a grizzled, hard drinking hero valued for his knowledge of the area and means of transportation (Grant a boat, Ford a plane) who clashes with the uptight, bossy heroine. In both movies they end up together. Their newly discovered love is abruptly interrupted (by the Japanese navy in F. G. and by pirates in 6D7N). You can go even further. For example, they were both trying to repair their damaged means of transportation as the movie progressed. There are obviously differences; this is not a pure remake. But I couldn't help but notice the multiple similarities. I wonder to what extent the writer was inspired or influenced by the Cary Grant classic.

Have you watched it yet? Father Goose is a really good movie, sweet and very funny. "Great blood!"

People said love was blind, but what they meant was that love blinded them.

A little similar to African Queen too for the same reasons.

reply

Yeah.

The Zemeckis movie Cast Away is not too unlike this, albeit a solo adventure.

reply

Not entirely solo... After all he has Wilson for a while. ;)

The bit with them lying on the beach and waves crashing over them while they kiss, I thought was like 'from here to eternity'.

I love Father goose, it's a great film. I can see there are some similiarities, though this one isn't as good as Father Goose.

There are elements of The African Queen, Father Goose, From Here to Eternity, Flight of the Phoenix and Return to the Blue Lagoon. For me, the mishmash worked as an entertaining island adventure/romance; nothing great, but certainly fun with a quality cast and spectacular Kaua'i locations.
