Matt Damon's teeth

During the night before the final battle, Private Ryan tells a humorous story to Captain Miller. During the telling of this story, all I could focus on was Matt Damon's teeth. They were so big, shiny and perfect! I don't believe people would have had teeth like this in the early 1940s - especially in the military. They should have made them look a bit more natural - like a few gaps or chips.

And you base this belief on what, exactly?

A lot of people have naturally well-aligned white teeth.

Maybe one hundred years prior with malnutrition and poor understanding of dental hygiene being contributing factors. But even before the 1930s there were the conditions to have good teeth.
I will say though that Damon's teeth were very white.

My both of grandfathers had great teeth. They were born in 1910/15
My great grandfather was born in 1887 and had great teeth.

Hey folks,

On several films and TV shows, Robert Duvall has used a prosthetic device to make his upper teeth appear crooked. It worked well for the character created.

Best wishes,
