I’ve been wondering this for years but does anyone else think maybe the mother committed suicide after the father died from the curse? They say she died of a broken heart and Gilly even asks Sally “Do you forgive our mother?” which really makes me think she did.
Not sure; I never thought she killed herself. I took it that she may have gave up on life being depressed. Sometimes people stop eating, sleeping, caring when they go through major depressions and it takes a toll on their body. When Gilly made the comment, I think she meant that their Mom had two daughters that needed her and even though she was in pain due to the loss of her husband she needed to pick herself up for their sake.
