Yikes! Practical Magic is a chick flick!

Decided to watch this one for the Halloween season as part of 31 days of witchcraft movies. For these types of movies, they seriously need to put warning labels on the DVD cases that say "WARNING: Not recommended for anyone with a Y chromosome"

There's no rule stating men can't like "chick flicks". Besides, the term "chick flick" is meant to be a negative conotation. You almost never hear of action/adventure (or any other movie that doesn't fall under romance) movies being "dude flicks". Like being a woman or thought of as a woman is the worst thing in the world. Please, get over yourself! The movie is about powerful women and the strong bond between them. Maybe you should stop thinking with a closed, sexist mind.

True and I personally like plenty of them. But this one IMO is not a very good example, despite the efforts of Sandra Bullock, who I thought did her level best to try to hold the film together.🐭

Maybe instead of Dude flicks we should call them dick flicks. Sounds more appropriate, that way us simple minded women will stay away from the hyper masculine movies, lest they think we're lesbians.

When was the last time an evil act was committed in the name of the Devil...

reply

Yeah, I don't like watching pretty girls like Sandra and Nicole either :)

reply

Are you gay? Nicole and Sandra were both Hotternell in their own ways.

"They sucked his brains out!"

reply

LOL!
My husband TRIED to sit through this movie, but then he left after about 8 minutes.
I stayed though, because I really liked it and found it FUN, and entertaining.

reply

I managed 11 minutes!

The fact that you needed to mention "not recommended for anyone with a Y chromosome" just makes you sound like an idiot. It's fine to not like a movie, but you're totally helping make the world a bad place by letting society's standards of what is girly and what is guyish continue by saying stupid things like that. Anyone can like a movie. There is no "this is for guys or girls only". You must live a very boring life if you determine everything is like that. You're probably the type of person who thinks video games are for men only and girls only play Facebook/mobile games or that a woman's place is in the kitchen. As far as I'm concerned, because you can't quit being a sheeple, your opinion doesn't even matter.

The label of "chick flick" is stupid and applies to maturity of a adolescent. Bullock and Kidman are both pretty hot in this movie. The music is mostly excellent, but for some reason I don't like Stevie Nicks' voice. It isn't the same as the Fleetwood Mac days. The plot is very good on the first half, but the second half (killing of Jimmy Angelov and evil drama parts afterward) are just okay. The acting is decent for the top characters. When compared to some of the higher rated movies on this site it should be higher than a 6.1.
