do Pleasantville characters have reproductive organs?

First let me assure anyone who reads this that I am a fan, 'Pleasantville' is one of a small handful of movies I re-watch relatively frequently.

But as I was viewing it today, recalling the scene where the school kids were asking about the stories the books represented and as Bud explained it then the writing began to appear.

And the scene where the girls were in the ladies room but there were no toilets.

Since the characters are just that, characters and not real people, not even actors, what they have in Pleasantville is just a function of what has been written in scripts. With no need to go to the toilet in scripts, or no need to have sex in scripts, then can't we correctly assume the Pleasantville characters had no way to eliminate waste or to engage in sex?

If we saw them naked wouldn't there just be a smooth section of skin where reproductive organs were missing?

I would say yes because when Mary She and Bud are in the car he says something is wrong and he is looking down at his lap, probably had a woody and never had one before.

That would be Mary Sue and Skip. Mary Sue and Bud were siblings. While incest might work for George Lucas, it just wasn't in the cards in this movie.

Oops thanks for the correction, I was just on the Rocky Horror board LOL

Ooh, even better than the Lucas reference. I think it was my 2nd or 3rd time watching that I actually realized Magenta and Riff-Raff were siblings. In my defense, there was a copious amount of alcohol involved in most of my viewings. The place where I used to watch RHPS was an independent theater that sold beer in big mugs, you see....

The answer would have to be yes as Mary Sue kicks a guy in the balls who grabs her wrist during the book burning scene and it works.

And don't forget the bathtub scene, implying that women are all there as well.

It does seem interesting though , after that no toilet scene I wondered if when she finally got dude alone in the car if she was going to unzip and find him all Ken doll. It all opens so many questions and thoughts like

-I guess the characters have never gone to the bathroom to do anything besides fix themselves up in the mirror etc, but the stall walls were at least there because it was part of a set. Are we to assume David and Jennifer never had to 'go' while they were in Pleasantville? I can't remember if she went into the stall because it was implied she had to go. If they did still have the need then , just like in most movies and the tv show itself, they didn't address how they delt with it.

If something like no toilet in the stall was a thing in this world, then wouldn't it be likely that the fire truck wouldn't have actually had a working fire hose? David doesn't even hook it up to a hydrant, I don't think enough time passed to imply he did (would have taken him a long time by himself) Then again the kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, and bathtubs had functioning plumbing.

You just have to enjoy what's there as there would be way too much to thoroughly explain and spell out about how it all worked.

I assume it works like the books... when you add knowledge and understanding, things fill in.

Yeah, that POV would be consistent with the rest of the movie. For example when the mom pleasured herself in the bathtub, it would have been the first time anything "pleasurable" was there because it was never needed (scripted) before in the fictional 1950s B&W TV show.

Well the one thing we can pretty much know is that Bud's mom has a clit!
