Die Hard is an aciton movie that has a really good plot. The Negotiator is a really good drama with a few action beats. That's not quite "apples and oranges," but they are still to different of genres to compare fairly.
Hmm, I would say The Negotiator is more thriller than drama w/ action. The film goes to survival thriller mode at some point, which is quite similar to Die Hard, so it isn't that much of a stretch to compare the two. A drama with action beats would be something like Heat. :)
The Negotiator was a decent film, Kevin Spacey, Jackson, and JT Walsh gave superb performances and this is what saved the film. The first act was really engrossing and built up well, but from then on the plot was a little too predictable and there were far too many holes for my liking.
Die Hard on the other hand has some really nice cinematography, a top notch plot and two of the best performances Alan Rickman and Bruce Willis have ever given.
I don't think you can really compare the two as another poster pointed out. I would agree that The Negotiator is more of a drama/action where as Die Hard is a full on action movie.

How did you find the plot predictable and what holes are you referring to?

Die Hard is far supeior to the Negotiator. its a different type of movie more action. also the start of one of the best badass action stars john mclane.
While The Negotiator is a very good, entertaining film, it borrows a lot from Die Hard. I can't tell you how many times I thought, "That happened in Die Hard!" lol.
Seen DIE HARD several times, once was enough for the Negotiator. I can think of a bunch of memorable die hard stuff, I wont be quoting any Negotiator lines. I own DIE HARD on blu-ray, I watched The Negotiator on AMC, thats good enough for me.
"Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that"

What did The Negotiator borrow from Die Hard?
