Probably the worst movie ever made

Have you seen this movie recently? I know that when you see it in theaters when you're younger you can suspend your disbelief and take it seriously. But watch it again on TBS. It's horrible. So many summersaults, doves, motorcycles, Tom Cruise flashing Blue Steel, explosions... I mean wow. It's the most self-gratifying movie production ever. And I like John Woo. The Killer and Hard-Boiled are great movies. But this is just unbelievable.

This is a wretched, stinking turd of a movie, and all those associated with it probably shudder when reminded. Tom Cruise is wooden, but this film is foul even by his cruddy standards. I can only assume Dolph Lundgren had prior commitments when they were casting the role...

It was over the top for no reason. The scene where he blows up the wall and jumps out of the building would've been awesome, but as he's falling to the ground he has to do a flip for no reason, like WTF, it was cool enough, now you're just making it ridiculous & unbelievable.

I thought it was twice as enjoyable as the first one. It's a john woo film...what do you expect??? It was fun to see cruise do some action like that.

I saw MI2 years ago and only again watched it yesterday b/c I had a dvd of both the great original MI and this sequel and wanted to remember if MI2 was as bad as I recalled. It was!

reply

yeah, it was terribly directed and acting was terrible. but whatcha gonna do, i though 3 wasnt that bad

@ dogfly6... you said, "it was terribly directed and acting was terrible"

it's hard to take that comment serious cause the acting clearly is not anywhere near 'terrible' by ANY films standards.

the directing was clearly not terrible either. it's John Woo and he's respected and known director (i.e. The Killer (1989)) and while he might not be the best director on the planet he's still 'professional level' ;)

so as you can clearly see it's very hard to take what you said serious (no offense, but i got a legitimate point ;) )

for the record... i think MI2 is easily the best of the MI series and the ticket sales (source = boxofficemojo.com) pretty much proved what the general public thinks of the series which is the same way i prefer the films, which are...

1.MI2 (the overall best of the series... my first viewing of this film was great (i.e. 10/10) as that end motorcycle chase scene where great (gave me a great feeling on my first viewing ;) ) and i liked the chemistry between Tom Cruise/Thandie Newton as they together beat anything the other two films had to offer for sure in my opinion)
2.MI1 (this probably feels the most authentic though in terms of the MI as it seems the most complex etc)
3.MI3 (i was actually quite disappointed with MI3 on my first viewing cause i thought MI2 was great on my first viewing but after repeated viewings MI3 has gotten better for me but it's still not as good as MI2 though )

p.s. and yes, i know that ticket sales dont always mean a good or bad film regardless of sales cause some films can not do that good at theaters and still be a great film and other films that do good/great in theaters (sales wise) can be OK-ish or worse. just thought i would point that out ;)

I agree with the brother who said it's the worst John Woo movie and the worst Mission Impossible movie.

It might not be the worst movie, but it is easily my least favorite movie.

reply

Well, in actuality, it may be the weakest Mission Impossible movie, but I enjoyed it the most.

I remember seeing the first one and I enjoyed it, especially that shot when the helicopter explosion threw him onto the train. (That stunt has not been topped in a Mission Impossible movie yet.)

When MI-2 came out, what made me enjoy it was the music. I can't find one person who didn't enjoy that scene in Last of the Mohicans near the waterfall with Daniel Day Lewis and... um... er... I mean, that scene in the building where Tom Cruise is telling Thandie Newton to "Stay Alive!!! I'm not going to lose you!!!"

I was expecting to hear Lisa Gerrard singing "I'm not going to lose you." But that didn't happen.

Even the music was similar.

In fact in the theatres, right before Tom Cruise jumped out the window you could see a man swatting another man with a Tomahawk. LOL!!! Fun ride.

MI-3: For some reason I didn't enjoy it that much. (cough-music-cough) But I was surprised to hear Kanye West during the end credits.

It ain't the worst movie ever made. There are tons of worse movies. However it's by far the worst installment of 'Mission Impossible' series. The worst and stupidest by a wide margin.

Every time you see a comment of BEST MOVIE EVER or WORST MOVIE EVER it's usually by a kid who has seen movies from the 2000's on.

Seriously, this isn't a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it's nowhere near worst ever.

reply

It's not that bad. It's enjoyable enough for what it is, an action movie. I've seen so much worse.

It's not the worst movie ever made, Over-sexed Rugsuckers From Mars is. Did you spot any pigeons in this, by the way?
