I think the x-files may hold the record for having the most material stolen from it. Still my all-time favorite show.

Actually, it's not. Your awful analogy uses a very broad framework to compare two completely different movies, while the OP compared crucial plot devices. This movie did re-work the X-Files story. No doubt about it.
