LOL Good work gang, from your posts, you made me think this one was a really good romantic film - NOT! Individually, I like all of the actors, but this film is rubbish! Romantic comedies are a big guilty pleasure of mine...Notting Hill, Bull Durham, About Love, While You Were Sleeping...and I'll give even mediocre ones an extra star, but this was a waste of my time. If you liked (or loved) A Philadelphia Story and When Harry Met Sally, please do not see this dopey movie. Sorry fans!

Finally, someone I agree with! This has GOT to be one of the worst films of all time. I was gobsmacked to see it had such a high rating here. There are so many things wrong with this film I don't even know where to begin...
Please refrain me from stating that coming on to a film's message board to bash about it anonymously is more of a waste of time for me than you watching this movie.
I slightly agree with the rocker-richard 2002, even though I enjoyed this film. I say enjoyed, but I do skip certain parts of the movie when I watch it again. I always skip the plane section (Dull) and the ending (Dull and daft).
Tom Hollander isn't very good in this movie - I have since seen him in other movies and he is a fantastic actor - but in this he has no appeal, but then that may have been the point and the reason that Frank disliked him.
Frank and Lawrence were played very well, Lawrence played the faithful and loyal friend, the one they both enjoyed making fun off, Joseph Fiennes prortayed his character well and I felt for him.
Martha annoyed me immensly and I agree, I saw no "character growth" I thought her acting was very wooden.
Frank was a great character played by Rufus Sewell, Frank is hilarious and this was the first time that I had seen Rufus Sewell on screen.
Good film in parts but it did lack in storyline, I mean come on !! how many thirty something men do you know who have never had a fight before (especially men like Frank)
Oh and Ray Winstone was funny (But why didn't he ask why this strange man was at his house so early in the morning, if some stranger came into my house before my alarm had gone off I would tell them to get lost.

Ray did point out what time it was and that he'd been living there long enough that it was late to be welcoming him to the building but when Lawrence asked if they might have some tea, I guess he thought that'd be nice... Englishmen are always up for a cup o' tea, right?! ;) Hugh Grant and the director of Love Actually are heard preparing and enjoying some tea as they are doing their audio commentary for the DVD!
I enjoyed Notting Hill, While You Were Sleeping (the paperboy falling off his bike was classic and a total surprise! Nothing is supposed to happen during a transition scene!), When Harry Met Sally...and I enjoyed this too, especially the surprise at the end with the neighbor).
My beef is how UNREALISTIC Martha's situation is. She's beautiful, she's blonde. Men typically fall all over themselves just to be around beautiful blondes (really pisses us mere mortals off, you know!) so I don't buy it for a second that she has such a crappy job and apartment situation. A woman like her gets hired for jobs she's not even qualified for because men want to have her around as eye candy. Look at the lengths Daniel went to to get sitting beside her on the plane!
