filming location

was wondering whether anyone is a fan of this film from london, familiar with battersea park where they supposedly filmed parts of it?
went there yesterday and didn't recognize too much, except for the bridge and maybe the gazebo. but then again, it's been a while since i've rewatched the film.
can anyone enlighten me on the other sites and where to find them?
i want to see the white building with the gallery, where martha and frank(?) go in and she leaves to lose him?
oh, and also, those steps she was sitting at, and starting to drink
do those chess tables still exist?

i noticed that battersea park actually underwent major renovations and was reopened just last year. perhaps a lot of stuff is gone...?
or maybe parts of the park are filmed elsewhere, in the states?

would be really neat to visit the places i see in the film though, as i do rather love the film
any help would be appreciated, thanks

I went to Battersea park last weekend and noticed a lot of changes too. I first went there a few years ago to find the places and noticed the Cafe had a different sign and its payphone was gone, and the white bench had been painted dark green, but I could tell both were the ones featured in the film. The bench has since been removed altogether. For a while I thought I was being delusional cos it had been a few years, but ahh I'll miss it.

The wierd shaped flats that Lawrence lives in are in Ealing. I used to walk past there every day on my way to work. I always thought there was something familar about them, then one day I rewatched the film and realised why.

Wow, thanks to you I found the flats yesterday! I'd always been curious as to where that funny shaped building was. I've been going to university in Ealing for three years now and never noticed it before.

They definitely don't look English. They remind me of condos on the beach in California.

Yes, they did have that "California" look. Pretty cool looking though.

I know that many in the US, including myself on occasion, think of English housing as quaint little cottages. Must be all that wonderful English literature that makes me think that, LOL. But I do know that England is actually quite cosmopolitan, especially London.
