Opinion on James Horner's score.

I think he developed a great score with lots of flavour. Sure, the danger theme makes appearance in the score, but it is overpowered by other themes in the movie.

It was a really great score, better than his titanic score in my opinion.

I thought it was an incredible score. The horse-riding sequence (when he's being chased by four or five soldiers) part really stood out, music wise, and really added intensity to it.

reply

yes the soundtrack is great

Long is the way And hard, that out of Hell leads up to light.

i thought it was a bit of a mish mash. you can here bits form all his other scores, even Aliens. so instead of enjoying i was playing guess the movie.

reply

I think it was used in The Phantom with Billy Zane...

reply

though a great score it was a bit of a mish mash of his other works including the phantom. but that said the music played perfectly in parts

James Horner didn't score The Phantom, David Newman did.

Loved it better than anything else, but that might be because I marched to it

Eternal Sunshine - Best film ever

First off, I love the score.

Second off, I liked it just as well the first time I heard it, when Miklos Rozsa wrote it for El Cid.

I kid (slightly). But seriously, James Horner did some heavy "borrowing" from Rozsa's score for sure.

Totally agree. A beautiful and oft-overlooked score.

The thing I like about James Horner is how well suited his scores are to their movies. Zorro has the perfect selection of music style and instruments that if you were listening to it over the radio and not familiar with it, it might still remind you of Zorro. He might use similar themes, but he definitely is adept at recognizing what theme and role his score should play. Another great example is Braveheart. Fits that movie perfectly

In regards to this movie, while I don't think it's his overall best, it's still a great soundtrack that I own. My favorite track is probably The Ride (that track is just so fun, if you know what I mean) followed closely by A Tornado in the Barracks. The album itself reminds me a little of another Horner score, Troy, with great heroic elements and a pop ballad to close the CD.

As an aside, my favorite of Horner's work is probably either Glory or Legends of the Fall. That's just personal preference though.
