Why did she get upset after the dance?

Ok, I guess I missed something, and I feel kinda stupid asking this question, but why did Zeta-Jones' character get offended after she danced with Banderas? I know what he said, but getting insulted doesn't seem like a warranted reaction. Please explain. Thanks!

I don't think she was upset, I just think she was embarrassed when her father arrived. Having just had an intimate moment with Alejandro, if anything she was upset at her father for interrupting, not Alejandro.

Hope this helped. Can you in turn check this thread out http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120746/board/flat/134963291?p=1 and tell me what you think? I had a question about another scene in the movie but hasn't been answered by anyone yet...

Right answer, I'd say. Although the other thing should've played in a bit, too...:)

What also played a big part was, at least in my opinion, she thought of him being more than one of the arrogant Dons, a man with passion etc. just to be dissapointed by his reaction to her "father"...

reply

Yeah,,

They were both into the dance, but he made it seem like she was the one to over power him. and thereby embarrasing her and making her look a fool,

and at the same time winning favour in her "father's" eyes, so he could get into their inner circle to find out the plan they had for California.

and so she was mad, because its like he got to dance with her passionatley and he seemed to not care afterwards, making her look silly.

Alejandro threw her under the bus and pissed her off.

Basically, that dance was considered extremely inappropriate-- maybe not for commoners, but definitely for the nobility. Very sexual. Elena was supposed to be a young lady, so it was improper for her to partake in such a dance, and it reflected badly on her adopted father, thus, he was angry with her.

Alejandro, instead of doing the gentlemanly thing and taking the blame for the dance-- after all, it was his idea-- basically blamed her and said that it had been her suggestion ("So that is the way they are dancing in Madrid nowadays?"), thus miring her in deeper trouble with her "father", who already thinks she's too wild for her own good. Of course, it was a good move on Alejandro's part, since he could fall from Montero's favor and Elena couldn't, exactly, but it made her pretty mad.

That would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus two plus one plus one.

Yeah, you know. She came on to me.

reply

Exactly. Weird how this flew over everyone's heads though.

She was upset becoz Alejandro said she was a very passionate dancer (I don´t remember exactly the word he used) and for sure that is absolutely inappropriated say to the father of a lady of her status at that time.

But Alejandro didn´t know that, he wasn´t aware that would be offensive to her becoz he is not from the nobility.

We can see Alejandro´s embarrasment when he knew that saying that was not appropiated, becoz he was faking to be a noble man.

Alejandro pretty much slut-shamed her in front of her father.

Alejandro: Excuse me Don Montero, I need to catch my breath, your daughter is a very "spirited" dancer...

Don Montero: "Spirited".... Thank you for putting it so lightly...

If I were her I'd be pretty pretty pissed off too.

Here's a slinky, go play.

reply

But again, just remember he did this for the greater good, and was himself playing the part of a foppish nobleman to hear what Don Montero's plan was.

she was upset because it was his idea to dance provocatively but he saved face with her father by putting the blame on her

reply

SHe was upset because, after the rousing, spirited dance, she feels drawn to Alejandro even tho her initial impression of him was that he was a dandy and a fop.
